Playoff Scuffle
IndianHuddle.com

Steven Williams making the tackleIf Carson-Newman beats Wingate this Saturday, the Indians are still alive for the sixth and final spot in the Division II playoffs. If the Bulldogs find a way to win, Wingate could some how creep in the top six. Catawba will have to be victorious over Lenoir-Rhyne this weekend for any of this to matter.

Games in the South Atlantic Conference also include Newberry at Presbyterian and Tusculum at Mars Hill. The Indians and Blue Hose will battle for the coveted Bronze Derby trophy, while the Pioneers and Lions will tussle for respect.

# 12 Carson-Newman
(7-2) (5-1)

Miss Piggy would stand a better chance hating Kermit, than the Wingate Bulldogs pulling out a win over Carson-Newman Saturday. The Bulldogs all-time record against Coach Sparks' Eagles has been lopsided to say the least. In the past decade, Wingate won once. In 1995, the Eagles were nipped 25-24. Shane Kelley is coming off of a career game against Catawba where he passed for over 300 and almost ran for 150 yards. He was National Player of the Week by two publications. Wingate is coming off a tough 27-17 setback to Presbyterian where quarterback Anthony Metzelaars threw three interceptions. All-American cornerback Deonte Bolden was banged up during the Catawba win, but will possibly give it a shot on senior day for Carson-Newman, he is one of the nation's leaders in pass deflections.

IndianHuddle.com's Pick: Carson-Newman: 56 Wingate: 28

vs

Tusculum
(5-4) (3-3)

Mars Hill
(6-3) (3-3)

Who could forgot the Mud Bowl of 2002 in Mars Hill against Tusculum. The Khalid Abdullah-led defense shut out the Pioneers, a high powered passing attack. The Lions only scored six, but won six to nothing. The game's only touchdown came in the fourth quarter when Carlos Gatlin, a gnat for a quarterback, found Rod DeWalt for a 48 yard scoring pass. Abdullah, who plays regularly on the Cincinnati Bengals, recorded 10 tackles and a sack. 252 yards of total offense was witnessed by both teams combined. Tusculum was 3-3 in the league heading into the 2002 contest, and are 3-3 again heading into Saturday's showdown. The Pioneers have been on a two game win streak, averaging over forty points in their last two.

IndianHuddle.com's Pick: Mars Hill: 21 Tusculum: 16

vs

Newberry
(3-6) (0-6)

Presbyterian
(6-4) (4-2)

No one would have thought Newberry would be looking for their first SAC win after beating up on David Bennett's Coastal Carolina team near the beginning of the season. Sophomore phenom Josh Stepp set school passing marks last week by passing for 2,236 yards in one season and a record 18 aerial scores. All-world receiver Tymere Zimmerman has 57 catches for 795 yards and 7 touchdowns so far this year. The South Carolinian teams showcase the league's most valuable secondary players in PC's Quasi Gary and Chad Burgess, plus Newberry's Jonathon Lyles. Gary has 78 tackles, a sack, and five picks. Burgess boasts a SAC high seven picks and two sacks. Lyles has produced 13 tackles and five interceptions. The forecast reads a low scoring game.

IndianHuddle.com's Pick: Presbyterian: 14 Newberry: 13
